Mario Carrara, Vice President & Chief Growth Officer of Cartiere Carrara, took part in “Sustainability in Practice”, an event organised by ambiente s.r.l. at Beste Hub in Prato, where he shared the company’s approach to sustainability through concrete initiatives focused on industrial efficiency, responsible resource management and engagement with local communities.
Turning sustainability into tangible action that creates value for businesses, people and local communities was one of the key themes of “Sustainability in Practice”, an event that brought together companies and experts to exchange experiences and perspectives on how sustainability can be translated into practical business strategies.
During the panel dedicated to “Applied Sustainability and Local Communities”, Mario Carrara presented Cartiere Carrara’s sustainability journey and its approach to combining environmental responsibility, industrial innovation and a long-term commitment to the communities in which the company operates.
Efficiency and Innovation for a More Sustainable Industry
For an industrial company such as Cartiere Carrara, sustainability and efficiency are closely interconnected.
The company continues to improve its production processes through initiatives aimed at increasing the energy efficiency of its production sites, expanding self-generated energy, reducing water consumption and investing in industrial innovation.
Using less energy and water, optimising processes and making better use of resources not only helps reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing activities, but also contributes to building a more efficient, resilient and competitive industrial model for the long term.
Creating Value Together with Local Communities
At Cartiere Carrara, sustainability also means building strong relationships with local communities and contributing to the development of the areas in which the company operates.
This commitment takes shape through partnerships with schools, technical institutes and universities, educational initiatives supporting the development of future generations, reforestation projects, and support for social and cultural organisations.
These initiatives include the company’s support for the Meyer Foundation and the Teatro Cartiere Carrara in Florence, alongside the many partnerships developed over the years with institutions, associations and organisations across local communities.
This approach reflects the belief that a company does not operate in isolation, but is part of a wider ecosystem of people, skills, communities and territories with which it can build lasting relationships and create shared value.
Sustainability Means Planning for the Future
The event also provided an opportunity to reflect on the role businesses can play in building a more sustainable future.
For Cartiere Carrara, sustainability is above all about the ability to look ahead, invest in the future and take care of what comes next, turning environmental and social ambitions into tangible, long-term industrial choices.
This vision is embodied in the purpose that guides the company’s journey: Caring for What’s Next.
Taking care of what comes next means continuing to innovate, using resources increasingly responsibly, investing in people and contributing to the development of local communities — creating today the conditions to generate value for tomorrow.
